Russians Shooting at Rescuers in Flooded Areas Following Dam Collapse, Zelensky Says

KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Russian forces were shooting at rescuers in flooded areas following a dam collapse in the eastern part of the country.

The dam collapse, which occurred on Friday, caused widespread flooding in the Donetsk region, where Russian forces have been fighting Ukrainian troops for months.

Zelensky said that Russian forces had opened fire on rescuers who were trying to help people who had been displaced by the flooding.

"The Russian occupiers are shooting at rescuers who are trying to save people," Zelensky said in a video address. "This is a new level of barbarity."

The Ukrainian government said that at least 12 people had been killed and dozens more were missing in the flooding.

The United Nations said that it was "deeply concerned" about the flooding and called on all parties to the conflict to allow safe access for humanitarian assistance.

The dam collapse is the latest in a series of humanitarian disasters in Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in February.

Millions of people have been displaced by the war, and thousands have been killed.

The United Nations has called the war in Ukraine the "most serious humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II."

Zelensky Calls for More Weapons

Zelensky also used his video address to call for more weapons from the West.

"We need more weapons to defend our country," Zelensky said. "We need more sanctions against Russia."

The United States and its allies have imposed a series of sanctions on Russia in an effort to cripple the country's economy and force it to withdraw from Ukraine.

However, Zelensky has said that the sanctions are not enough.

"The sanctions must be stronger," Zelensky said. "They must be painful."

Zelensky's comments come as the war in Ukraine enters its 100th day.

The conflict has caused a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and has had a significant impact on the global economy.

The United Nations has warned that the war could push up to 10 million people into famine.

The war has also caused a spike in energy prices, which has contributed to inflation in many countries.

The conflict in Ukraine is likely to continue for some time.

It is unclear when or how the war will end.

However, it is clear that the war is having a devastating impact on Ukraine and the world.
